N-ICE TO SEE YOU!

BFFF has released a video to celebrate the success of the N-ice project – the world’s first frozen food gourmet restaurant.

The N-ice pop up restaurant opened its doors to over 600 diners for a week in August serving fine cuisine with signature dishes from Great British Menu’s Atul Kochhar and Something for the Weekend’s Simon Rimmer. The twist – all dishes served in the restaurant were made from frozen ingredients. The project aimed to dispel the myth that frozen food is an inferior ingredient choice and can be used to create a very high standard of cuisine.

A survey completed by N-ice restaurant patrons revealed a positive shift in attitudes towards frozen food after the dining experience . The new video, containing footage from the restaurant, showcases the project with comments from diners and chefs.

Brian Young, director general of the BFFF said: “The N-ice video captures the best of this very exciting project. We aimed to challenge the perceptions of frozen food and the research along with the feedback received so far shows that the project has been a huge success. Advances in freezing technology mean that frozen food can now compete with fresh food on flavour, nutritional value and appearance. We are confident that the project has gone a long way to altering public perceptions of frozen products.”

The N-ice restaurant was held at Westminster Kingsway College during 8 -12 August 2010. Staff and students from the culinary arts school cooked and served gourmet cuisine from the freezer to a host of guests including journalists, government officials and industry figure heads.
