FROZEN FOODS INCREASE VOLUME BY 3.4% DURING 2000/2001

The frozen food market enjoyed steady volume growth at 3.4% with actual pack volume increasing by 4.1% over the 52 week period ending 29 April 2001. Illustrating the trends towards smaller packs and cheaper average prices in the sector as a whole, value growth was 1.2%.

The figures, issued by the superpanel of Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) now values the market at £3.3 billion and TNS say that 99% of households bought the category at least once in the last 52 weeks. The statistics relevant to the market follow and the growth is largely due to the performance of ready meals, which is now the third largest sector by volume.
