From 1st July 2007, England will join
Wales and Scotland to be ‘smoke free’ when it will be against the law to
smoke in virtually all enclosed public places, workplaces and public and work

REVISED ASBESTOS
REGULATIONS TO COME IN TO FORCE ON
13 NOVEMBER 2006
The Control of Asbestos
Regulations 2006, which were laid in Parliament on 20th October 2006, will come
into force on 13 November 2006. The revised regulations will strengthen overall
worker protection by reducing exposure limits and introducing mandatory training
for work with asbestos. They will also simplify the regulatory regime and
implement revisions to the EU Asbestos Worker Protection Directive. more

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) decided in February 2005, to
implement changes to occupational health and safety law and practice that arise
from within the UK on only two dates each year and they have now extended this
to legislation arising from Europe, wherever it is in their control to do so.
Obviously, if any critical legislation arises between these dates it will be
implemented straightaway.

talk pack’ in 2005 and it has now been updated by the HSE to reflect changes

TRANSPORT RISK – A ROUTE MAP
The
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published a consultation paper on managing
workplace transport risk.
The consultation runs until 22 September 2006.
The
HSE says that it has been devising a cross-cutting guidance tool (called the
route map) to help manage the risk involved in the use of workplace transport.
It notes that workplace transport is used in a great variety of
situations and remains the second biggest cause of fatal injury in the
