Health and Safety Working Group

The H&S Working Group provides a confidential health and safety forum to focus on issues relevant to the industry, enabling the dissemination of pertinent H&S information to members.
Aims

  • To highlight the relevant frozen food industry health and safety information for BFFF focus.
  • To highlight relevant frozen food industry health and safety issues for possible BFFF involvement.
  • To advise on any initiatives that BFFF should take particular interest.
  • To facilitate networking amongst the different sectors of the Federation.
  • To contribute to the consultation process on proposed legislation, new regulations, codes of practice, guidance notes etc.
  • To contribute to the LAPS and HSE warehousing forum meetings .
  • To facilitate the dissemination of relevant information to the BFFF members following the LAPS and HSE Warehousing forum meetings.
  • Assist in developing appropriate links with government, regulatory bodies and other relevant organisation.

With over 25 years experience in public and private sectors beginning as an Environmental Health Officer, I now support the 5200 strong 3663 population as head of the Environmental Services Department. My role includes occupational health and safety; operational food safety and environmental management for this leading national foodservice distributor.

Graham, originally from a Countryside Management background, joined Kff in 1988. He started his career with Kff in the transport department and quickly moved into the warehousing side, specialising in developing and managing the storage, order picking and loading systems. In 1998 Graham also took on the role of Kff Health and Safety Officer reporting to Chris Beckley, Operations Director.

Mark looks after Safety and broader Sustainability issues at apetito. apetito provide frozen meals and food service solutions primarily for the community meals market. apetito meals are served at 175 NHS hospitals and enjoyed daily by over 8,000 elderly and vulnerable meals on wheels clients. Safety of product and people is very much central to how apetito do business.

A health & safety practitioner for 12 years following initial qualification as an Environmental Health Officer, I initially worked as a H&S Manager with Next, both within their distribution and retail operations, before moving onto Asda in 2003.  My current role incorporates formulating central policy and process and setting national strategy for all areas of Trading Law (H&S / Fire / Food Safety / Env / Trading Standards) within the distribution operation, incorporating 23 depots and 1500 Asda fleet vehicles.
I am a chartered member of the CIEH and an active member of the IOSH Retail and Distribution committee. I also represent Asda and the industry sector within wider organisational circles including the BRC and the BFFF.

A director at R&R for over 10 years, the largest of own label Ice Cream manufacturer in Europe, with the added responsibility for health and safety and environment; but even before thas he was actively involved in advising businesses for 10 years regarding health and safety when he was running his own HR and Training consultancy and prior to that when he was head of HR and Training at WCF for 10 years.
